If you missed the buzz at The Cocoon in Orchard Road last weekend, Meiko Tailor was privileged to be amongst the 14 Singapore local men’s lifestyle and menswear brands that showcased capsule collections of summer blazers, crisp-cut shirts, and new fabric choices at the recent TaFF (Textile and Fashion Federation) Trunk Show 2020.
Held from 8 to 9 February 2020, the inaugural TaFF Trunks: Men’s Edition was curated to celebrate men’s fashion – the heritage, the evolution of designer wear to bespoke apparel and the increasingly discerning taste of the quintessential men today.
Today’s men have awakened to realise and appreciate the finer details in crafting a suit or tailor a shirt. With an increasing interest in men’s fashion and how it has evolved over the past decade, the modern man today also desires customised services. They want to be armed with unique apparel and shoes to stand out from the crowd. The crave for customisation gives them an added personality when donning these clothing items.
From TaFF, we had the privilege of pairing with Danil Palma (@whathebronte) to have his first bespoke suit made. Working with Danil was a pleasurable experience. Being his first customised suit tailoring experience, Danil was open to new suggestions of colours, fabric choices and style. With his sun-kissed skin colour, we thought he would go well with a warmer hue. At the same time, he wanted a get-up that suits his lifestyle, yet flexible for him to dress up as the occasion calls for it.

At the end of the consultation, we went with the Loro Piana Spring/Summer collection burgundy window pane sports jacket in wool, linen and silk mix, matched with a soft 100% Irish linen trousers made from Baird McNutt series, and a salmon peach shirt lined with red buttons to add a touch of contrast. Made within three weeks, Danil’s well-cut suit was ready for the preview night on 7 February 2020.
To sass things up, Danil’s ensemble was made complete by a pair of double monk shoes by Jonathan Abel, a Singapore brand specialised in on custom-made, Italian/French leather shoes made by Portuguese artisans which require a five-to eight-week wait. The pairing of our club blazer suit with craft-focused dress shoes from Jonathan Abel simply nailed his sartorial style.
Having been in the industry for over 40 years, we discovered that many from the young generation have not heard of Meiko Tailor. Hence, the Trunk Show was a great opportunity to introduce Meiko Tailor and Master Tailor Chung, to educate common folks and shoppers about the finer points in bespoke tailoring craftsmanship and our signature full-canvassed suits.

We also had the pleasure of suiting up Leonard Choo, Director of TaFF Design Resources, in our three-piece ash grey crimson checked bespoke-fit vintage suit as he was the speaker on the subject: Black Tie and “The Tuxedo” Talk on the second day of the event. Leonard being a costume maker and a former tailor himself was the ideal spokesperson to share knowledge on classical tailoring, the mark of a tuxedo suit, and how it has evolved to suit today’s modern gentlemen’s sartorial preferences.
Meiko Tailor’s presence at the TaFF inaugural Trunk Show brings us a step closer to the local fashion community giving the modern man an avenue to express their individuality and style preferences from fabric to fit.
